On Thursday, February 12, five trucks carrying more than 30 kilometers of glass reactor tubes arrived for Algae Capital’s algae cultivation facility in the Netherlands. The tubes have been stored thanks to S. van Holstein Transport and represent an important step in the realization of an innovative production facility in the Netherlands.
Algae Capital is developing a high-quality algae cultivation facility where controlled growth, scalability and efficient production are central. With this delivery, the project transitions from preparation and engineering into physical realization.
The Core of the Facility
Within the transparent glass reactor tubes supplied by SCHOTT, microalgae will be cultivated under fully controlled conditions. The tubes will be assembled modularly into a closed photobioreactor system, which will be integrated into a high-tech greenhouse environment in collaboration with Certhon.
Within this system:
Sunlight and supplemental artificial light are efficiently utilized for photosynthesis
Water and nutrients are continuously recirculated
Growth, quality and yield are precisely monitored and controlled.
This controlled approach enables consistent production and provides the foundation for further scale-up.
A Step Closer to Dutch Production
“With this delivery, we are taking a concrete step from design and preparation toward realization. The photobioreactors enable us to build and further develop the system in a controlled manner toward production,” says Michaël Blom, Project Manager at Algae Capital.
In the next phase, the team will focus on the installation and integration of the systems on site. This brings the operational commissioning of a future-oriented algae cultivation facility in the Netherlands one step closer.
